SALT Performing Arts Announces New Venture for Children Ages 3, 4 and 5, Playhouses for Preschoolers

CHESTER SPRINGS, PA — SALT Performing Arts announces SALT’s Playhouses for Preschoolers are now enrolling for the 2019/2020 school year for Early Childhood Enrichment, whereby children ages 3-5 can be encouraged to grow in confidence, kindness, and creativity during their most formative years.

With two locations to choose from, Chester Springs and West Chester, Playhouses for Preschoolers will offer 2-days-a-week (Tuesday & Thursday), 3-days-a-week (Monday, Wednesday & Friday), and 5-days-a-week sessions in the mornings (September-May).  Children will take part in group activities in the areas of music & dance, cognitive development, and dramatic storytelling.

An alternative to regular preschool, SALT Playhouses will provide children with a developmentally appropriate approach to cognitive skills such as problem-solving and decision-making, as well as language development, all through the performing arts.

The sessions will take place from 9:15 AM to 12:45 PM, and will include three rotations between music/dance, dramatic storytelling, and cognitive/language skill building. Each session will conclude with a family-style lunch experience where an instructor will sit with the children to teach and encourage group conversation skills (question-asking, active-listening, etc.) and manners. Additionally, it will be the goal to do an outside activity each week. Twice a month, mornings will consist of extra-curricular enrichment in tumbling class, ballet & tap, and the fine arts (painting, drawing, and pottery). Five times throughout the year, the children in all the sessions will perform a showcase for their family and friends.

“SALT Playhouses’ mission is not to train up young performers, but rather to instill self-confidence in children. The ability to present oneself before a crowd is a noteworthy skill to possess and one that is easily instilled at an early age when self-consciousness is forming,” says Lauren McComas, SALT Artistic Director and President. “SALT believes that when children are confident, they are less apt to be susceptible to or participate in bullying, they feel empowered to use their strengths and abilities for the betterment of others, and they are less likely to struggle with insecurities and anxieties.”

Registrations are NOW OPEN for the 2019-2020 sessions. Space is limited to allow for individualized attention. Cost for the 2-days-a-week session is $52/week. Cost for the 3-days-a-week session is $78/week. Cost for the 5-days-a-week session is $130/week. The session runs for 34 weeks total between September-May.  Kelly Kunsch will serve as the Director for both locations.  Kelly has a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Communications from Albright College and a Masters of Education from Penn State University. She previously taught kindergarten in Exeter Township School District and has worked as a behavioral aide in the preschool setting. In recent years, she has spent time at home with her three children, Addison (11), Chloe (8) and Dax (6).
