WEST CHESTER, PA — West Chester University’s Office of Sustainability (OoS) is hosting a weekly series of Sustainability Research and Practice Seminars, designed to explore local, national, and global sustainability issues. Held every Wednesday at 12 p.m., the 50-minute sessions provide insights into the practices and research of WCU faculty, staff, and students, along with expert contributions from guest speakers.
The seminars are open to both the campus community and the public, free of charge. Attendees may join in person at Sykes Student Union, Room 209, or via Zoom for virtual participation. Each presentation offers valuable knowledge in a brief, accessible format, with recordings later made available through the Francis Harvey Green Library’s Digital Commons site.
The program, which runs from February 5 to April 30, features a range of topics including sustainable urban planning, biomimicry, ant microbiomes, and sustainable practices in campus dining. Highlights of this year’s schedule include discussions such as “Why Do Mushroom Farms in PA Smell so Bad?” on February 26 and “On Environmental Debts, and Debt Abolition to Fight the Climate Crisis” on April 9.
Co-sponsored by the Office for Research and Sponsored Programs and the Sustainability Council’s Scholarly and Creative Activities Committee, the series reflects WCU’s commitment to fostering education, dialogue, and actionable insights in sustainability.
