MEDIA, PA — Delaware County Community College (DCCC) has announced a new scholarship initiative to support its Building and Facilities Maintenance Certificate Program, aimed at addressing the growing demand for skilled maintenance professionals in the region. With funding from a $1.37 million grant provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, DCCC plans to train up to 80 students with half the cost of first-year tuition covered.
The 29-credit certificate program, introduced in 2024, equips students with essential technical and operational skills for roles as building maintenance managers and maintenance technicians. The curriculum emphasizes modern technology, incorporating lessons in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), and productivity tools—skills increasingly critical in today’s maintenance industry.
“To remove financial barriers and encourage students to consider this family-sustaining career pathway, scholarships are being offered to cover one half the cost of regular first-year tuition,” said Karen Kozachyn, Vice President of Workforce and Economic Development at DCCC.
Students will receive hands-on training in areas such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical systems, and facility management, alongside specialized courses like Forklift Operations, Certified Facility Manager, and Introduction to AI in Facility Maintenance. The program serves as a stepping stone for advancing to an associate degree in Skilled Trades.
Building maintenance professionals play a vital role in ensuring care and compliance for facility operations. With increasing workforce demand, DCCC’s initiative aligns with its reputation as a leader in developing programs that lead to professional certifications and workforce-readiness credentials.
This initiative marks a significant step in preparing Pennsylvania’s workforce for future challenges while providing accessible, career-focused education opportunities.
