MEDIA, PA — Four students from Delaware County Community College (DCCC) have been named to the prestigious 2025 All-Pennsylvania Academic Team, in recognition of their outstanding academic performance, leadership, and community service. The accolade, sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa and the Pennsylvania Commission for Community Colleges, grants recipients the opportunity to attend one of the 10 Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education universities tuition-free for two years.
Umniyah Al-Haneef, Maria Camara, Liz Mercadante, and Brooke Weiss were celebrated for their achievements during a banquet held in Harrisburg on April 8. Recognized for their diverse ambitions and dedication, each student exemplified a commitment to excellence in both their studies and leadership roles.
Psychology major Umniyah Al-Haneef, from Folcroft, serves as president of the Psychology Club and secretary of the Student Government Association. With aspirations to work in neuroscience, she has won awards for academic excellence and leadership. “So surely with hardship comes ease,” she noted as a guiding principle.
Political Science major Maria Camara of Lansdowne balances two jobs while pursuing her degree, with plans to continue her studies in International Relations. Fluent in three languages, Maria highlighted the challenges and rewards of managing her academic and professional commitments.
Nursing major Liz Mercadante from Exton was inspired by her parents, both nurses, to pursue a career focused on patient-centered care. Her goal is to advance into emergency medicine and provide critical healthcare in underserved areas worldwide.
Business Administration major Brooke Weiss, president of DCCC’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter, plans to further her studies in management at West Chester University. Reflecting on her time at DCCC, she praised the diversity and resilience of the student body. “We are pursuing our dreams and working hard for our future,” she said.
These students’ inclusion in the All-Pennsylvania Academic Team underscores their dedication and the vital role community colleges play in fostering academic and personal growth.
