MEDIA, PA — Delaware County Community College (DCCC) is poised to become a summer hub of learning and fun for children and young teens with its expansive array of Summer Kids Camps. This year, the college has broadened its offerings to include a wide range of interests from traditional arts and crafts to cutting-edge fields like machine learning and artificial intelligence, along with practical life skills training such as babysitter training with CPR and first aid certification.
Catering to ages 6 to 14, these camps are tailored for children aged six to 14, ensuring there’s something for every child’s interest. Notably, the college introduces immersive two-week math and reading camps this year, targeting four different age groups with the aim of boosting reading and math skills, thereby enhancing proficiency in these essential areas.
In a significant move to make these educational opportunities more accessible, unemployed caregivers residing in Delaware County have a chance to benefit from up to $1,000 in credits toward summer camp fees. This initiative comes under the Delco Strong Summer Camp Solution, approved by the Delaware County Council, to alleviate the challenges caregivers face in securing employment and finding reliable childcare during the summer months. Interested parties can apply for these grants scholarships through the pacareerlinkdelco.org/summer-camp/ website.
Adding another layer of support, the Delaware County Workforce Development Board is offering scholarships for the first time this year, specifically targeting middle school students. The goal is to nurture skills in high priority occupations recognized within Pennsylvania, with several of DCCC’s Summer Kids Camps meeting the criteria for this scholarship opportunity. With a history of hosting Summer Kids Camps for over 17 years and providing youth programs since 1996, DCCC continues to build on its legacy of community engagement and educational advancement. These camps not only offer a fun-filled educational experience for participants but also represent a critical resource for local families, particularly those impacted by unemployment.
The introduction of scholarships and grants marks a pivotal step in ensuring these programs are within reach for families facing financial hardships. By breaking down economic barriers to participation, DCCC and the Delaware County Council are not just offering a temporary childcare solution but are investing in the future workforce of Pennsylvania. Through these initiatives, children and teens gain early exposure to potential career paths, especially in sectors identified as high priority by the state, thus sowing the seeds for a more skilled and adaptable future workforce.
Registration for the Summer Kids Camps is now open, with options to sign up online or by calling the college at 610-359-5025. This proactive approach by DCCC and local government bodies reflects a broader commitment to supporting families and nurturing the next generation’s skill set, ultimately contributing to the region’s long-term economic resilience and growth.
