MEDIA, PA — Needah-e-fatema Hafeezali Gangji, a Delaware County Community College (DCCC) student from Malvern, has been named a 2024 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar. This prestigious recognition, awarded to just 210 students nationwide, comes with a $1,000 scholarship provided by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation.
The Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship Program supports members of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for community colleges, by helping them offset educational expenses while pursuing associate degrees. Winners are chosen for their academic excellence, leadership potential, and commitment to community service. Gangji, a Business Administration associate degree candidate, was selected from over 1,500 applicants.
A native of Tanzania, Gangji is an active leader on campus. She serves as president of the Business Society, vice president of social media for Phi Theta Kappa’s Alpha Tau Epsilon chapter, and is working to establish a debate club at DCCC. She has also been involved with the Muslim Students Association and the Social Work Club. Passionate about digital media and public speaking, Gangji aims to pursue a bachelor’s degree in marketing and communications with a minor in digital marketing after graduation.
“DCCC is more than a college; it’s the place that gave me the opportunity to follow my flame,” said Gangji, reflecting on her time at the institution.
Dr. Marta Yera Cronin, President of DCCC, praised Gangji’s accomplishment, saying, “We are very proud that one of our students has been recognized with this prestigious national award. Needah’s selection as a Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar is an outstanding accomplishment and a reflection of her strong academic work and her commitment to her community.”
The Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship Program will distribute $210,000 to deserving scholars this year, including $200,000 from the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation. “The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation has a long history of providing financial assistance to outstanding students at community colleges,” said Jane Hale Hopkins,
