NORTH EAST, MD – Zach Osborne, a Cecil College graduate from Rising Sun, Maryland, has turned his passion for graphic design into a remarkable career, culminating in his current role with the Washington Commanders’ marketing office. Osborne’s path reflects his dedication, creative talent, and the unwavering support of his family and mentors.
Osborne discovered his interest in graphic design at age 13, turning a hobby into a clear career path by 16 through an internship with the Premier Lacrosse League. After graduating from Rising Sun High School, he enrolled at Cecil College, where his mother’s employment provided tuition benefits. He earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Visual Communication – Graphic Design in 2022, setting the foundation for his professional life.
During his time at Cecil, Osborne was mentored by Assistant Professors Jonathan Cone and Adam Jacono. Their guidance in refining his skills and building a professional portfolio proved pivotal. “Zach brought an amazing combination of talent, work ethic, and positivity,” said Jacono. “His success at top-tier organizations is a direct result of his drive and professional vision.”
Even with his determination, Osborne faced challenges after graduation. Struggling to secure opportunities, he received a breakthrough when Penn State University offered him a position as a recruiting designer in June 2022. At Penn State, Osborne played a key role in creating graphics for recruitment and events, later advancing to multimedia specialist. His expanded responsibilities included photography and social media, providing critical experience in a fast-paced environment.
By April 2024, Osborne had set his sights on the NFL. An opportunity with the Washington Commanders brought him closer to home while allowing him to join the league he had always aspired to work with. His portfolio and experience impressed his new team, and he started his role with the Commanders during the high-stakes NFL Draft week.
Osborne now works as a social media graphic designer, collaborating with a creative team to produce content that engages fans and enhances the organization’s brand. While the demands of football season can be intense, Osborne embraces the challenge and is proud to contribute to the team’s success.
Osborne credits much of his achievement to the support of his parents, particularly his mother, whose job at Cecil College ensured he could graduate without significant debt. “She helped light a fire under me to get my degree and pursue my career,” Osborne shared.
Looking back, Osborne sees his career as a series of well-built steps, from Cecil College to Penn State and now the Washington Commanders. Each experience prepared him for the opportunities ahead, and today, he is living the dream he worked tirelessly to achieve.
