DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The YMCA of Greater Brandywine (YGBW) has awarded the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) with the esteemed Service to Youth Award during its annual volunteer recognition ceremony, the Breakfast of Champions, held at the Penn Oaks Golf Club in West Chester on Thursday, April 25, 2024. This accolade is bestowed upon individuals or organizations that have notably contributed to enhancing the lives of young people within the community.
The CCIU has been instrumental in collaborating with the YMCA to support numerous child-centric programs across the area. These partnerships encompass a variety of initiatives aimed at benefiting children and families, including childcare services, the Early Learning Resource Center, enrichment programs for before and after school, early intervention services, and professional development opportunities for educators.
Bertram L. Lawson, President and CEO of YGBW, presented the award to Sam Ewing, Director of Student Services at the CCIU, acknowledging the profound impact of their collective efforts on the community’s youth. In his acceptance speech, Ewing highlighted the shared mission of both organizations to enrich the educational experiences and lives of students throughout Chester County. He credited the success of their initiatives to the dedicated staff at CCIU and the strong partnership with the YMCA.
Ewing’s remarks highlighted the significance of the collaboration between the CCIU and the YMCA in providing critical educational services and support. Their joint efforts, particularly in areas such as early childhood education, after-school programming, and educator professional development, have directly benefited many children and young people in the community.
This acknowledgment from the YMCA of Greater Brandywine emphasizes the valuable contribution of the Chester County Intermediate Unit towards fostering a nurturing and supportive environment for the youth. The Service to Youth Award not only celebrates the achievements of the CCIU but also reaffirms the importance of continued collaboration in serving the needs of the community’s youngest members.
