DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Kammas Kersch, STEM Services Coordinator at the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU), has been recognized with the prestigious 2025 National Scholastic Esports Administrative Ally Award. The accolade, presented through the inaugural National Scholastic Esports Awards, celebrates Kersch’s exceptional leadership and advocacy in advancing scholastic esports across Pennsylvania.

Kersch was selected as the winner in the K-12 Administrative Ally category and was a finalist for both the Administrative Ally Award and the Impact Award. Although unable to attend the ceremony at Ohio State University in person, Kersch viewed the event via livestream, describing the moment as “surreal.” “I was so honored to even be a finalist, and when I saw my name announced as the winner, it was surreal,” she said. “It’s incredible to see how far scholastic esports has come, and I’m grateful to be part of this growing movement.”

Since joining CCIU in 2020, Kersch has transformed scholastic esports from a small initiative into a robust statewide program that integrates STEM education, career readiness, and inclusion. Her efforts include using PA Smart Grants to secure funding for the Pennsylvania Scholastic Esports League (PSEL), which now supports 455 educators across the state and benefits over 250 middle and high schools. Under her guidance, PSEL has grown into a recognized force for engaging students in STEM, fostering belonging, and preparing them for 21st-century careers.

Previously, Kersch taught high school chemistry and computer science, led her school’s science department, and coached a video game club. This experience laid the foundation for her innovative leadership at CCIU, where she has united school districts, community organizations, and industry leaders in building a thriving esports ecosystem.

“Kammas has worked tirelessly to grow scholastic esports throughout the state of Pennsylvania,” said Matt Swan, CCIU STEM Coordinator and the individual who nominated her for the award. “Through her efforts, esports has expanded to over 250 schools, and she has built strong partnerships that create opportunities for students to excel. Her leadership is truly inspiring, and I couldn’t imagine a more deserving recipient of this award.”

Reflecting on her success, Kersch emphasized the broader potential of esports in education. “The recognition of this award is a testament to CCIU’s commitment to innovation and student success,” she said. “Esports is a powerful avenue for career readiness, STEM engagement, and belonging. It provides a unique opportunity for all students to find adult mentors, build confidence, and discover their passions. I’m excited to continue growing these opportunities for students!”

With Kersch at the helm, the future of scholastic esports in Pennsylvania looks bright. Her vision and dedication are not only shaping the next generation of esports programs but also redefining how education can leverage technology to inspire and empower students.
