DOWNINGTOWN, PA – Laurel DiFonzo’s career at Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) exemplifies the transformative impact of internships and mentorship. Her journey, which began with a college internship, has evolved into a full-fledged career, culminating in her role as a technology specialist and mentor.
DiFonzo, a computer science graduate, started her internship with CCIU’s Innovative Educational Services team, tackling bug fixes and small feature requests. Reflecting on her academic experience, she stated, “My college courses exposed me to diverse types of programming, including web development, which was helpful for diving into the many different technologies I use professionally.”
Post-internship, DiFonzo advanced to a technology support generalist position and quickly rose to become a specialist. Her responsibilities now include web development, scripting, Salesforce management, and overseeing backup systems for clients across the state using Rubrik.
In addition to her technical contributions, DiFonzo mentors Technical College High School interns, providing them with practical experience and guidance. “I decided to mentor because it’s mutually beneficial. I get improvements to our website and a fresh perspective, while the intern gains valuable career experience,” she explained.
Her advice to aspiring tech professionals is straightforward: “Learn as much as you can about different technologies. There’s a lot of diversity out there, and you’ll find your niche.”
For those inspired by DiFonzo and interested in technology and education, CCIU offers numerous programs to foster future innovators. Residents of Chester County can take this opportunity to join a transformative journey in the tech field.
