DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Families from across Chester County came together for an evening of stories, music, and learning at the Library Pajama Party hosted on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. Organized by the Chester County Intermediate Unit’s (CCIU) Early Head Start and Head Start programs in collaboration with the Chester County Library, the event aimed to foster early literacy and build community connections.

Children arrived dressed in their coziest pajamas and enjoyed an interactive story time featuring engaging books and lively songs. Hands-on activities allowed participants to explore the joys of reading in a playful and welcoming environment. Families also participated in a scavenger hunt, discovering the wide range of free library resources available to support early childhood learning and development.

“This event was a wonderful opportunity to bring families together and emphasize the importance of early literacy,” said Kelsey Houdeshel, a representative for CCIU’s Early Head Start and Head Start programs. “Seeing children and parents engaging with books, music, and each other in such a joyful way was truly inspiring.”

The Library Pajama Party is part of a broader mission by CCIU’s programs to strengthen school readiness and offer high-quality learning experiences to young children. Beyond such events, Early Head Start and Head Start provide comprehensive services, from educational support to family engagement, ensuring that qualifying families across Chester County have access to vital development resources.

Through initiatives like this, CCIU continues to highlight the important role early literacy plays in shaping children’s futures while creating memorable, educational experiences for families to enjoy.
