DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) has officially announced the appointment of Dr. Jennifer Murray as its next Assistant Executive Director. Approved by the CCIU Board during its February 19 meeting, Murray will take on her new role starting June 16, 2025.
Dr. Murray, a seasoned educational leader with over two decades of experience, has gained national recognition for her innovative and results-driven approach to public education. She currently serves as Superintendent of the Reading School District (RSD), Pennsylvania’s fourth-largest district, overseeing more than 17,000 students and 2,400 staff members. Her leadership has been pivotal in advancing academic outcomes while managing complex organizational operations.

Fiore, Executive Director of CCIU. “We are confident that her experience, strategic vision, and passion for education will be invaluable to CCIU and the communities we serve. Dr. Murray’s accomplishments include spearheading several trailblazing educational initiatives. Under her leadership, the Reading School District launched the Early College Academy and Early Career Academy, offering students direct access to higher education and workforce opportunities. She also played an integral role in developing the district’s Virtual Academy, expanding flexible, high-quality learning options for students.
Beyond these achievements, Murray served as superintendent of record for both the Reading Muhlenberg Career and Technical Center and the Muhlenberg School District, where she collaborated to create robust Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. Her expertise further extends to strategic planning and large-scale facilities management. Most notably, she oversaw a $468 million budget in Reading, ensuring financial stability while advancing infrastructure upgrades.
