WEST GROVE, PA — Jenny Sassaman, an instructor in the Engine Technology Program at Technical College High School (TCHS) Pennock’s Bridge, has been named Chester County Intermediate Unit’s (CCIU) March Employee of the Month, recognizing her dedication to hands-on education and student success.

At the CCIU-operated TCHS, Sassaman is known for fostering an immersive, career-focused learning environment. She supports her students not only with technical skills but also with mentorship tailored to their individual needs. “It’s not just my students who thrive here—I thrive as a teacher,” Sassaman said, emphasizing the collaborative nature of her classroom.

Her commitment extends beyond teaching skills. Sassaman, dressed in the same uniform as her students, encourages active engagement and creativity by allowing them to bring their own projects into the workshop. “I work alongside them and show them that learning can be exciting,” she said.

For students like Nathan Rhoades, a third-year student acting as shop supervisor, Sassaman’s approach has been pivotal. “I never liked sitting at a desk for eight hours listening to someone talk,” Rhoades said, crediting the program’s hands-on model for helping him thrive.

Success stories are a hallmark of Sassaman’s leadership. She recalled one student who gained confidence and honed his skills to earn multiple certifications and excel beyond expectations. “He can weld circles around me!” she proudly noted, adding that he will serve as this year’s graduation speaker.

The TCHS program combines academic instruction at students’ home schools with technical training on campus, preparing them for a variety of careers with real-world experience. Sassaman’s classroom exemplifies this approach, cultivating both technical proficiency and personal growth. “They’re learning hands-on, in real-world situations. That makes all the difference,” Sassaman reflected.
