WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County Art Association hosted a vibrant celebration of student creativity on Thursday, April 10, during the Chester County High School Art Exhibition and the PA 6th District Congressional Art Competition reception. The event drew art enthusiasts to West Chester, where nearly 500 pieces, including sculptures, paintings, and photography, highlighted the diverse talent of high school students from across the county.
Kathy Gurnee, special events coordinator for the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU), praised the students’ dedication. “The diverse range of mediums and the creativity on display truly reflect the hard work and passion these young artists bring to their craft,” she remarked.
Among the highlights, students from the 6th Congressional District had the opportunity to compete in Representative Chrissy Houlahan’s Congressional Art Competition. Recognized nationwide, this program awards the winning artwork with a year-long display in the U.S. Capitol.
Chayanant Leelasanti of Phoenixville Area High School claimed first place with Self Portrait, securing the coveted Capitol display. Jordan Wolfe of Exeter Township Senior High School earned second place for A Contrast of Symbolism, which will be exhibited in Representative Houlahan’s local office. Third-place went to Keara Schott of Coatesville Area Senior High School for Foreshadowed Fate, also destined for local display.
Wolfe expressed her excitement about the recognition, saying, “It’s empowering and inspirational to see how far I’ve come from when I started.” She plans to pursue graphic design at Millersville University after graduation.
The exhibition runs through Tuesday, April 22, 2025, and remains free and open to the public. Organized by the CCIU and partially supported by CCRES Educational and Behavioral Health Services, the event continues to celebrate and encourage the next generation of local artists.
