WEST CHESTER, PA — It was an evening of excitement and anticipation as Chester County students and their families flocked to the Chester County Intermediate Unit’s (CCIU) Summer Adventures Camp and Activities Fair on January 23. Hosted at West Chester East High School, the event offered a headstart on summer planning for eager attendees.
The fair, now in its 12th year, is a collaborative effort by the CCIU, CCRES, and the Children’s Fund of Chester County (CFCC). It serves as a vibrant platform, connecting local families with over 50 vendors, ranging from summer camps and educational programs to craft vendors and sports organizations.
This free event empowers families to explore and engage with local vendors that resonate with their children’s interests and needs. Parents had the unique opportunity to interact directly with camp representatives, getting immediate answers to their queries, a welcome departure from the traditional process of waiting for responses.
Serena Zhou, a parent and first-time attendee, shared her experience, “This is my first time looking for camps for my daughter, so this is a good way to see what’s out there and what’s in our general area. There are a lot of different types of activities here, from superhero camp to Treehouse World and the YMCA.”
The fair also serves as a potent networking platform for local businesses. Crystal Murphy, a business owner promoting the Learning Adventures Summer Camp, said, “We’re a small, community-based business and we’re new, so we’re in the exposure phase of getting to know the community. This event is a great way to get people to come see us, talk to people one on one, tell them about what we do and network with other businesses.”
Jay Della Ragione, the special events coordinator for the CCIU, emphasized the event’s goal: “Our aim is to connect families with local organizations and take the stress out of summer planning. This event offers a variety of summer activities all in one place and brings the community together.”
Attendees enjoyed more than just the array of vendors. The winter chill was forgotten amidst upbeat music, a photo booth, interactive activities, and promotional items that kept the young attendees engaged throughout the evening.
The event concluded on a high note, with two raffles: one for vendors, featuring a Twin Valley Coffee basket and a $25 Amazon gift card, and another for attending families, including toys, arts and crafts, and kinetic sand.
The Summer Adventures Camp and Activities Fair is an annual event that showcases the diverse summer opportunities available to Chester County families, making summer planning a breeze!
