ROYERSFORD, PA — State Sen. Katie Muth (D-Chester/Montgomery/Berks) announced this week that three educational institutions in Senate District 44 have received a total of $255,000 in grant funding. The funds are part of the 2023-2024 Career and Technical Education Competitive Equipment Grant program.
Berks County Career and Technical Center (CTC), Western Montgomery County CTC, and Octorara Area School District in Chester County will each receive an $85,000 grant. The grants aim to assist these institutions in purchasing new equipment to train students for in-demand occupations through their career and technical education programs.
Senator Muth emphasized the importance of such investments in the context of the broader state education system. “Our CTCs are such an important part of our education system because they allow students with diverse talents to learn the skills and real-world application of their education in fields from technology and healthcare to engineering and the trades,” she said.
Indeed, these grants will play a critical role in enabling vocational schools and CTCs to keep their programs current and relevant. By updating or purchasing new equipment, these centers can better align their training with the needs of employers, ultimately improving students’ employability upon graduation.
The Pennsylvania Department of Education announced the local funding as part of a larger pool of $4 million in competitive grants. These funds will be distributed to 55 career and technical centers and school districts across the Commonwealth. The Equipment Grant supports school districts with eight or more Pennsylvania Department of Education-approved Career and Technical Education Programs and Pennsylvania CTCs.
The grant program is designed to ensure that students across the state have access to high-quality vocational education that prepares them for the demands of today’s job market. By investing in up-to-date equipment and resources, Pennsylvania is making a commitment to its students’ futures, ensuring they have the skills and training necessary to succeed in their chosen careers.
In a time when the need for technically skilled workers is on the rise, these grants represent a vital investment in Pennsylvania’s future workforce. The funding will help equip students with the tools and skills they need to secure high-demand jobs in industries such as technology, healthcare, engineering, and trades. As Senator Muth aptly put it, “These grants will help our CTCs and school districts ensure they have the equipment and programming available to train students in high-demand jobs in our region.”
