WEST CHESTER, PA — The AccessLex Institute announced the opening of the fifth application cycle for its innovative LexPreLaw program on March 18, 2024. This initiative stands as a cornerstone of the Institute’s broader LexScholars diversity effort, targeting aspiring law students from underrepresented racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

The LexPreLaw program offers a comprehensive suite of resources aimed at bridging the gap between talented individuals and their aspirations of entering the legal profession. Participants receive free LSAT preparation, personalized admission counseling, financial education, and numerous engagement opportunities designed to enhance their law school admission prospects.

Aaron N. Taylor, Senior Vice President and Executive Director of the AccessLex Center for Legal Education Excellence®, highlighted the program’s impact: “Since 2021, more than 135 LexPreLaw participants have enrolled in a total of 65 law schools across the country.” He further noted the significant milestone of the first cohort graduating from law school in the spring of 2024.

Taylor emphasized the Institute’s dedication to expanding access to legal education for deserving candidates from underrepresented groups. “LexPreLaw is a reflection of that commitment, and we are excited to continue helping aspiring lawyers achieve their dreams,” he stated.

Since its launch, the LexScholars program has assisted approximately 1,000 students in their journey toward a legal career, making it the largest pathway feeder initiative of its kind. Its unparalleled scale and scope have positioned it as a pivotal guide for more aspiring law students than any other program within the same timeframe.

The latest cohort aims to enroll 225 aspiring lawyers who either possess or will obtain a bachelor’s degree by August 2025 and plan to apply to law school for the fall 2025 entering class. This cycle marks a crucial phase in LexScholars’ five-year study, which seeks to uncover insights and develop effective strategies for facilitating law school admission among individuals from underrepresented backgrounds.

The implications of the LexPreLaw program extend far beyond individual success stories. By actively working to diversify the legal profession, AccessLex Institute addresses systemic barriers and fosters a more inclusive legal landscape. This initiative not only benefits the participants but also enriches the legal community by introducing a broader range of perspectives and experiences.

As the LexPreLaw program enters its fifth cycle, it continues to pave the way for a new generation of lawyers committed to justice and equity. Through such transformative efforts, AccessLex Institute reaffirms its role as a catalyst for change in legal education, striving to ensure that the profession reflects the diversity of the society it serves.
