WEST CHESTER, PA — Chester County residents and history enthusiasts are invited to a fascinating public talk on the county’s Civil War generals. The event, hosted by the Westtown Historical Commission, will take place on Saturday, April 5, at 10 a.m. at the Westtown Township Building, located at 1039 Wilmington Pike, West Chester.
Historian David Walters will highlight the remarkable stories of 10 Civil War generals from Chester County, known for their critical roles in the Union Army’s fight against slavery. The presentation promises to shed light on the area’s rich history as an Abolitionist stronghold and its contributions to the Union cause. Among the featured topics, Walters will share the extraordinary story of the youngest Brigadier General in U.S. Army history, who was too young to vote for the president who appointed him, as well as tales of adventure and bravery that earned Medal of Honor recognition for local military leaders.
This free event will also include a discussion on the upcoming America 250 celebration planned for 2026, marking America’s 250th birthday with a year-long series of historical events and programs.
