WEST CHESTER, PA — History buffs in Chester County are invited to delve into a pivotal moment of the American Revolution at the upcoming talk, “Lafayette at Brandywine,” hosted by the Westtown Historical Commission. This free public event will occur on Saturday, September 7th at 10 am at Stokes Hall, within the Westtown Township Building, located at 1039 Wilmington Pike.

The presentation will focus on the young Marquis de Lafayette’s crucial contributions during the Battle of Brandywine in September 1777. At just 19 years old, Lafayette was appointed a Major General in the Continental Army, quickly gaining a position on General Washington’s staff. Despite being wounded in battle, Lafayette played a key role in orchestrating an orderly retreat of American forces.

Renowned Chester County author and reporter Bruce Mowday will lead the discussion. Mowday, a prolific writer with several historical books to his credit, including four centered on Lafayette, brings a wealth of knowledge to the talk. In recognition of his expertise, he has been appointed by Chester County to the America 250th Commission and serves as the Chester County Chair for the Lafayette Bicentennial Committee.
