HARRISBURG, PA — State Representative Danielle Friel Otten, D-Chester, this week announced that Upper Uwchlan Township has been awarded a $350,000 grant from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) to enhance Hickory Park, the township’s most beloved recreational space.
The funding, part of the Community Conservation Partnerships Program (C2P2), will support a range of improvements, including the renovation of pedestrian walkways, volleyball courts, and the parking area. Additionally, the grant will facilitate the construction of new pickleball courts, a basketball court, a cricket/rugby pitch, and a baseball field complete with a pavilion. Essential upgrades such as stormwater management, ADA access, landscaping, project signage, and other site enhancements will also be part of this transformative initiative.
“These state grants help to fund transformative investments in our community spaces,” Otten said. “Hickory Park is Upper Uwchlan’s most popular and widely used park, and this money will help to expand recreation opportunities in the township and the surrounding area. I applaud the township for its plan to add new amenities that will serve a broad range of ages and interests, as well as the commitment to investments in ADA access and sustainable stormwater management to ensure that our parks are more inclusive and enjoyable for all.”
DCNR’s C2P2 program offers extensive grant and technical assistance opportunities designed to help Pennsylvania communities, land conservancies, and non-profit organizations plan and develop natural resources across the state.
In total, over $8.2 million has been awarded to 24 organizations across Pennsylvania, underscoring the commitment to fostering community conservation projects statewide.
