CHESTER SPRINGS, PA — Upper Uwchlan Township has announced updated guidelines for the proper disposal of mattresses and box springs. The new rules, which are designed to streamline the process and cover associated landfill costs, will take effect immediately.
Under the new policy, residents disposing of mattresses or box springs will be required to pay a flat fee of $30 per item, regardless of size. This fee helps offset tipping fees incurred by the township for landfill disposal while ensuring responsible handling of these bulky waste items.
To adhere to the updated process, residents must wrap their mattress or box spring in plastic prior to collection. A $30 prepaid sticker, available for purchase at the Township Building, must then be attached to the item. Once these steps are completed, the item will be collected on the designated bulk trash collection day.
The introduction of this system aims to simplify mattress disposal for residents while ensuring proper waste management practices. Township officials encourage all residents to comply with the new rules to enhance efficiency and maintain environmental responsibility.
