CHESTER SPRINGS, PA — Upper Uwchlan Township has a rich agricultural heritage with historic barns dating back to the mid-1700s. The Township’s Historical Commission is offering an opportunity on August 3, 2023, for residents and visitors alike to discover these hidden treasures through the Town Tours and Village Walks event. This guided tour will take participants to three farms, namely Upland Farm, Fellowship Farm, and Whelen Farm, all showcasing Upper Uwchlan’s agricultural legacy. The event’s highlight is the guided tour, which will start at Upland Farm Park, located that 301 Pottstown in Chester Springs, a township park with natural walking trails. From there, participants will board a bus to take them to Fellowship Farm, where they will witness an active farm in operation today. The farm boasts an early formal stone farmhouse built with the Georgian style of architecture. Later on, participants will proceed to Whelen Farm, an original 200-acre farm that included Fellowship Farm. This property features an early log farmhouse with stone additions, and remnants of an outdoor bake oven. The farm was also home to an early stone English Lake District barn.
All three farms on the tour have at least one intact historic building dating back to the mid-1700s, including the Upland Farm farmhouse, which has undergone a Victorian makeover in the 1860s. Aside from its rich agricultural history, Fellowship Farm has also been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The farm boasts well-preserved historic buildings, beautiful countryside views, and an unparalleled glimpse into life on a historic farm.
The duration of each tour is approximately 45 minutes, and they are scheduled to start at 5:30, 5:45, 6:15, 6:30, and 7:00. Advanced registration is required.
