ROYERSFORD, PA – Over $345,000 in state funding has been allocated to three projects in Senate District 44 through the Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program. The funding, approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, aims to enhance parks, improve accessibility, and support recreation planning across Chester and Montgomery counties.

State Senator Katie Muth (D-Chester/Montgomery/Berks) highlighted the significance of the funding for local communities. “It is always great news when state funding comes back to our district to directly and positively impact the quality of life for our constituents,” Muth said. “We need to continue to support programs that enhance our parks and recreation, improve accessibility, and make our communities safer for bicycles and pedestrians.”

The approved projects include the following in Chester County:

  • Parkesburg Borough was awarded $168,074 to upgrade Minch Park, including ADA improvements and other updates to the playground.
  • East Vincent Township received $100,000 to make improvements to Independence Park.

Additionally, in Montgomery County:

  • Upper Providence Township secured $77,915 for a bicycle, pedestrian, and greenway planning project.

The Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program is funded through Act 13 of 2012, which allocates impact fees from unconventional gas wells to support planning, development, and rehabilitation of greenways, parks, trails, and open spaces. These initiatives aim to improve community accessibility and recreational opportunities statewide.

Muth expressed her gratitude for the advocacy efforts of local communities in securing these grants. “I am grateful that these communities continue to advocate on behalf of their residents, and I look forward to seeing these projects begin,” she added.
