HARRISBURG, PA — Spring City Borough has been awarded a $350,000 grant by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR). This funding, part of the Community Conservation Partnership Program, is earmarked for the development of Spring City Boat Launch Park, aiming to revitalize the area while promoting environmental stewardship and community engagement.
The grant will facilitate a comprehensive range of enhancements at the park. Key planned developments include streambank restoration and the construction of essential amenities such as a pavilion, picnic area, and pedestrian walkways. Additionally, the project encompasses the creation of a parking area and the installation of lighting and security systems to ensure safety and accessibility for all visitors. The improvements will also include ADA-compliant access, landscaping, project signage, and various site upgrades, ensuring the park meets standards of inclusivity and sustainability.
State Rep. Paul Friel, D-Chester, expressed his enthusiasm for the grant, highlighting its role in advancing public access and environmental preservation. “Grant funding is the key that allows us to upgrade our public boat launch, ensuring safe access, cleaner facilities and sustainable preservation for everyone who loves our waterways,” stated Friel. “With these investments, we enhance the community’s connection to nature while protecting it for generations to come.”
This initiative is part of a broader effort by DCNR to support community conservation projects across Pennsylvania. The Community Conservation Partnership Program provides grants and technical assistance to communities, land conservancies, and nonprofit organizations to enable the planning, acquisition, and development of natural resources statewide. In addition to Spring City Borough, over $8.2 million was distributed to 24 organizations, underscoring a state-wide commitment to environmental sustainability and outdoor recreation.
The development of Spring City Boat Launch Park is poised to offer substantial benefits to the local community. The project will serve recreational enthusiasts and enhance residents’ quality of life by providing a well-maintained natural space for leisure and community activities. This endeavor exemplifies the successful collaboration between public entities and local stakeholders in fostering environments that support both ecological health and community well-being.
