KENNETT SQUARE, PAState Representative Christina Sappey has successfully requested a public input hearing from the Public Utility Commission (PUC) concerning the proposed rate increase by Aqua PA Inc. The hearing aims to gather feedback from residents affected by the potential hike in water and wastewater rates.

The PUC has scheduled the hearing for 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8, at the New Garden Township Municipal Building, located at 299 Starr Road, Landenberg, PA. Rep. Sappey encourages all customers impacted by the proposed rate increase to attend and voice their concerns.

The proposed rate hike by Aqua PA Inc. and Aqua PA Wastewater Inc. is set at 18.7%. This follows significant increases in 2022, which, for some customers, resulted in tripled wastewater bills. The Pennsylvania Office of Consumer Advocate has opposed the new rate increase, prompting Sappey to file a formal complaint with the PUC.

“Many Aqua customers are still coping with a substantial rate increase from 2022 which, for some, tripled their wastewater bills. It’s imperative that residents speak up now to let both the PUC and Aqua know how a rate hike of this magnitude would impact their monthly household budgets,” Sappey stated.

Residents interested in participating in the hearing can visit the PUC’s website at puc.pa.gov for information on the hearing’s format and procedures. Those with additional questions can contact Rep. Sappey’s office by calling (484) 200-8264 or by emailing repsappey@pahouse.net with “Aqua rate increase hearing” in the subject line.

Rep. Sappey represents the 158th Legislative District in Chester County, covering areas such as Avondale, East Fallowfield, East Marlborough, Kennett, Kennett Square, New Garden, Newlin, Pocopson, West Bradford, and West Marlborough.
