PARKESBURG, PA — The Parkesburg Borough Police Department has announced plans to extend part-time police services to neighboring Atglen Borough, starting March 1, 2024.

The agreement, a result of a contract between the two boroughs, marks a significant step in the history of the Parkesburg Borough Police Department, known for its long-standing tradition of contract police operations within Chester County.

Atglen Borough, a quaint community tucked away in western Chester County, is home to approximately 1,400 residents. Despite its small size of just 0.9 square miles, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, the borough stands to benefit greatly from this partnership, enhancing safety and security for its citizens.

This collaboration follows a change in leadership within the Parkesburg Borough Police Department. Ryan Murtagh was officially sworn in as the acting Parkesburg Borough Police Chief on February 1, 2024. Murtagh takes over from former Chief Brian C. Sheller, who recently embarked on a new journey as the Deputy Warden at the Chester County Prison.

The transition of police services to Atglen Borough under Chief Murtagh’s leadership signifies a renewed commitment to public safety in western Chester County. As Parkesburg Police prepares to embark on this expanded role, residents of both boroughs can expect a seamless integration of services.

The move aims to provide Atglen Borough with improved access to law enforcement resources, potentially including patrols, emergency response, and community policing initiatives. As March 1 approaches, the residents of Atglen Borough can look forward to an enhanced level of police services.
