OXFORD, PA — The third Oxford Noir At A Bar event, an evening of crime, suspense and a touch of murder for Oxford Library supporters, is scheduled for Thursday, October 13, 2022, from 6:30 pm until the last body drops, at the Octoraro Hotel. Proceeds from the event benefit the Oxford Public Library.

“I can tell you, it’s gonna get messy. The largest single evening of carnage in Oxford, PA. We hope to see a lot of you there… as innocent bystanders.” So says Gary Zenker, emcee for the event and one of the dozen authors who will be reading their short stories of suspense, crime, and murder.

Gary is the creator of Noir At A Bar, which also holds readings in West Chester. He also runs two local writers’ groups, the Main Line Writers Group in Wayne and the Wilmington-Chadds Ford Writers Group in Wilmington. The groups focus on helping writers better their craft, publish their work, and establish strong relationships with other writers.

“The Noir events are a way to connect authors and their stories to the audience. Jay Kennedy is Secretary of the Oxford Library Board of Trustees and came to a Noir reading in West Chester. He thought that it would be great to do a similar event in association with his library. A few months later, we made our first Oxford event a reality.”

The previous events were very well received and attracted a capacity crowd. Covid pushed out most in-person events but the timing is right to restart this tradition.

“Our authors are local from the tri-state area,” noted Zenker. “Most are published authors and all are donating their time to raise funds for the Oxford Library. For many of them, it isn’t even their local library. But they all recognize this as a great cause!”

“Bringing readers and stories together is at the very foundation of the Library’s core mission,” noted Carey Bresler, Library Director.  “We traditionally do it through printed books and other media. This is an opportunity to do it with the actual authors, nearly a dozen of them in one room. We are excited to host this event once again.”

Local authors include Chris Bauer, Jay Kennedy, Michael Clarke, Jim Sassaman, Chris Bauer, Matty Dalrymple, Tom Joyce, Matt McGeehin, Greg Cox, and Gary Zenker.

Tickets for the event being held at the Octoraro Hotel are $25 and include a buffet meal. Those interested should RSVP to the Oxford Library at 610.932.9625 or oxfordlibrary@ccls.org or at the library.
