KENNETT SQUARE, PA — State Representative Christina Sappey, D-Chester, has announced a $1 million state grant for the restoration of the Creamery of Kennett Square, a historic 19,000-square-foot building in the Birch Street District. The funding, drawn from Pennsylvania’s Main Street Matters program, aims to boost local economies and revitalize downtown areas.
“The Creamery project is a great fit for the Main Street Matters program,” Sappey said. “This funding will help restore the structural integrity of a historic building and foster economic development in the greater Kennett Square community and the Birch Street corridor. We value our history very much here, so doing the work to restore a structure that will invite visitors from far and wide to Kennett to learn, experience and enjoy is a very worthwhile endeavor.”
The grant, part of the 2024-25 state budget initiative, will support ongoing efforts by the nonprofit Square Roots Community Partnership, Inc. The organization focuses on funding local business development and using profits to benefit the community.
Restoration of the Creamery is expected to enhance the area’s appeal, strengthen small businesses, and solidify Kennett Square as a destination for tourism and community engagement.
