EXTON, PA — State Rep. Danielle Friel Otten, D-Chester, is joining forces with the Chester County Food Bank to host a Paper-Only Shred Event & Food Drive on Saturday, May 3, at Lionville Middle School, 550 W Uwchlan Ave. Running from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., the event offers community members a secure means of disposing of sensitive documents while supporting efforts to fight food insecurity.
The initiative provides a vital service in protecting residents from identity theft, with constituents invited to bring up to four file-size boxes of documents for on-site shredding. “Shred events like this are a vital service for our community,” said Rep. Otten. “With tax season behind us and spring cleaning underway, constituents appreciate these opportunities to safely dispose of and recycle their financial documents and other sensitive materials. I am excited to partner with the Chester County Food Bank for this joint event to help combat identity theft, encourage recycling, and boost donations to the food bank during this challenging time when donations are needed the most.”
The Chester County Food Bank will accept non-perishable food donations during the event, specifically canned proteins, fruits, vegetables, and soups. Nick Imbesi, Director of Community Relations for the Food Bank, emphasized the need for community support. “Right now, food donations from the holiday season are exhausted, so any help would be greatly appreciated. We thank the community for always rallying around us.”
Participants are directed to remain in their cars while staff and volunteers handle the unloading of documents and donations. Shredded paper will be recycled, and any empty bags or boxes will be returned to vehicles. The event will continue rain or shine, ending when the shred truck is full or at 3 p.m.
This first-come, first-served event is open to individuals, not businesses, and provides an easy way for residents to contribute to both personal security and community well-being. By tackling identity theft risks and addressing food insecurity, this partnership offers meaningful solutions to real-world challenges.
With its dual focus on sustainability and assistance, the event aims to make a tangible impact on the Chester County community. For additional details, residents can contact Rep. Otten’s office at 484-200-8259.
