Commissioners join Westtown School Students in preparation in Meal Prep for Meals on Wheels

WEST CHESTER, PA — Chester County Commissioners Kathi Cozzone and Terence Farrell recently joined middle school and high school students and staff at Westtown School to prepare meals for the county’s Meals on Wheels program. Westtown School provides the food and student “manpower” to prepare and package around 25 meals every weekday for the East and West Goshen Meals on Wheels chapter. Delivery of these meals help homebound Chester County seniors maintain healthy eating habits and remain independent.

Meals on Wheels of Chester County is funded in part by the Chester County Department of Aging Services as well as private and corporate donations. With a part-time staff of just five, and more than 500 volunteers, the organization served over 80,000 meals last year to Chester County residents, the majority of which are over the age of 60.

Jeani Purcell, Director of Meals on Wheels Chester County said: “Meals on Wheels succeeds in Chester County because of the partnership between our County Commissioners and the Department of Aging Services, private and corporate supporters like Westtown School, and our hundreds of dedicated volunteers. The leadership and staff at Westtown School inspire and prepare their students to be good stewards and actively help the local community, and the students’ enthusiasm and willingness to help feed our homebound seniors is greatly appreciated.”
