GLENMOORE, PA — Chester County Commissioners Marian Moskowitz, Josh Maxwell, and Michelle Kichline joined members of the Friends of Springton Manor Farm to complete the planting of nine new trees at the County-owned park. The plantings were part of the County’s recognition of the importance of Earth Day.
The Friends of Springton Manor Farm funded $1,000 towards the purchase of the trees.
In a joint statement, the Commissioners said, “Generations of visitors to Springton Manor Farm will enjoy the shade and beauty of these trees, so it’s exciting to see their start and then watch their growth in the years to come. It seems fitting to plant trees – so vital to our environment – around Earth Day.”
They continued, “We thank the Friends of Springton Manor Farm for their generous donation and continued support of one of our Chester County gems. And thanks go to our Parks + Preservation staff who care for and protect the County’s parks, trails, and green spaces not just on Earth Day but all year round.”
The new trees replace nine elm trees that succumbed to Dutch Elm disease in 2022. They are shade and ornamental trees native to Chester County. The six shade saplings include Red Maple, Sweetgum, and Common Hackberry. The ornamental saplings include two Native Eastern Redbuds and one White Redbud, a cultivar of the native genus.
