LIMESTONE TWP, PA — Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis and DCNR Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn joined local officials in Limestone Township to celebrate the addition of the 24-mile Piney Rail Corridor. This $937,900 investment, funded by DCNR’s All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Management Restricted Account Fund, was awarded to Piney Rail Riders as part of the Shapiro-Davis Administration’s effort to enhance outdoor recreation and boost rural economies across Pennsylvania.

“This investment reflects our commitment to Pennsylvania’s $19 billion outdoor recreation industry,” said Lt. Governor Davis. “Expanding opportunities for ATV riders ensures safe and enjoyable experiences while creating lasting memories in nature.”

Stretching across 550 acres, the Piney Rail Corridor spans six townships in Clarion and Jefferson counties, connecting with over a dozen nearby communities. The acquisition secures long-term use and conservation of the trail, which is expected to become a major recreational destination for motorized and non-motorized activities.

Secretary Dunn highlighted the project’s economic benefits, noting, “Strategic investments in outdoor recreation like the Piney Rail Corridor drive local economic growth and provide opportunities for residents and visitors to experience the natural beauty of western Pennsylvania.”

The Piney Rail Corridor is anticipated to generate significant tourism revenue within the Pennsylvania Wilds region, bolstering local businesses such as restaurants, lodging, and outdoor retailers. The project also emphasizes environmental sustainability, with plans to address water quality and runoff in partnership with local conservation groups, ensuring the health of ecosystems in the area.

With over 290,000 registered ATVs in Pennsylvania, investments in trails like the Piney Rail Corridor are vital to expanding accessible, safe recreation while supporting economic growth in rural communities. Officials lauded the collaboration that made this milestone possible and expressed optimism about its long-term impact on the region.

Piney Rail Riders and state leaders envision a thriving outdoor recreation hub, strengthening local economies and attracting visitors to experience all that Pennsylvania has to offer.
