WILMINGTON, DEDelaware State Police have identified 35-year-old Issa Sheriff of Darby, Pennsylvania, as the victim of a fatal crash that occurred in the early hours of Monday morning on I-495 northbound.

The incident took place at approximately 4:57 a.m. on March 24, 2025, just south of the US Route 13 exit. According to preliminary investigations, a silver 2011 Ford Fusion was disabled in the center lane of the highway. The driver of the Ford, who was standing in front of the vehicle, became the victim of a chain-reaction collision.

A gray 2019 Jeep Comanche, driven by a 34-year-old woman from Newark, Delaware, was traveling in the center lane when it struck the stationary Ford. The impact forced the Ford forward, hitting the victim and the guardrail before coming to a stop. The Jeep then halted in the left lane.

Mr. Sheriff was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Jeep was unharmed in the crash.

The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues its investigation and has called on any witnesses to come forward. Those with information are encouraged to contact Sergeant J. Jefferson at (302) 365-8484 or provide tips anonymously via Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
