Manhunt Underway for Suspects in Shocking Newark Church Crash

NEWARK, DE—Authorities are actively searching for two individuals allegedly involved in a motor vehicle crash that caused significant damage to a Newark church on January 13, 2025.

According to the Newark Police Department, Brandon Mayes, 21, (pictured) and Kasim Coleman, 24, (no photo available) both of Philadelphia, have been linked to a vehicle that struck St. John AM Church, located at the corner of New London Road and Hillside Road. The incident occurred during the early morning hours after the vehicle reportedly fled from officers at a car dealership on East Cleveland Avenue.

Police have obtained warrants for Mayes and Coleman on multiple charges, including two counts of attempted theft of a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property over $1,500, conspiracy in the second degree, and criminal mischief with damages exceeding $5,000. Additional charges encompass lesser counts of criminal mischief and various traffic violations.
