DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) has appointed Bill Pepitone as its new director of safety and security, a decision approved by the CCIU Board of Directors on January 15. Pepitone assumed the role on January 27, 2025.
With over 36 years of experience in safety and security, Pepitone brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to his new position. Prior to joining CCIU, he served as safety and security manager at Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (MCIU), where he led emergency operations planning, safety training courses, and threat assessment efforts.
Pepitone began his career in law enforcement in 1989 as a New York Police Department (NYPD) officer, spending 13 years with the department’s Brooklyn South Task Force. Among his many achievements, he earned a Medal of Commendation for his dedication to duty during his time with the task force. Following his tenure, he served as an academy instructor and safety training coordinator before retiring from the NYPD in 2009.
Pepitone transitioned into education in 2016 as the chief of public safety at Manor College, handling Title IX and Clery Act investigations. His background in both law enforcement and education positions him to effectively maintain safe learning environments and build strong security teams at CCIU.
Expressing his commitment to the new role, Pepitone emphasized the importance of fostering safety for students and staff. “Providing parents with a high level of confidence in their children’s safety will only enhance our organization’s reputation,” he stated.
This appointment aims to further strengthen CCIU’s efforts to maintain a secure and welcoming environment for its students and staff. Pepitone’s extensive experience in law enforcement and safety training will be invaluable in ensuring the safety of all members of the CCIU community.
