LOWER POTTSGROVE TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced plans to begin construction next week on U.S. 422, Sanatoga Road, and Porter Road as part of an $83.6 million project aimed at enhancing an important section of the region’s transportation infrastructure. The project involves significant reconstruction work on a 2.1-mile segment of the expressway and the replacement of several bridges situated between the Sanatoga Interchange and Porter Road in Montgomery County.
The schedule for the work includes several closures and traffic disruptions that drivers in the area should anticipate. PennDOT has provided detailed information on the timing and scope of the construction for the upcoming week, spanning Monday, January 27, to Friday, January 31.
Planned Lane Restrictions and Closures:
- Westbound U.S. 422: From 4:00 AM to 2:00 PM, intermittent single lane closures will be in place between Evergreen Road (Sanatoga Interchange) and Armand Hammer Boulevard for road and bridge reconstruction.
- Sanatoga Road: Both directions will experience intermittent single lane closures, along with 15-minute traffic stoppages, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM between E. High Street and Linfield Road due to bridge construction.
- Porter Road: Similar closures and 15-minute stoppages are set to affect both directions from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM between E. High Street and Sanatoga Station Road for bridge-related work.
- Eastbound U.S. 422: Intermittent single lane closures are planned from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM between Keim Street and Evergreen Road for continued road and bridge reconstruction.
Additionally, oversized loads exceeding 10 feet in width will be prohibited on eastbound U.S. 422 between Armand Hammer Boulevard and Evergreen Road from Wednesday, January 29, to Friday, January 31, during the hours of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Oversized vehicles will need to follow posted detour routes.
Motorists traveling through these areas should plan for potential delays and longer commute times. While PennDOT has committed to minimizing disruptions to the extent possible, officials caution that backups are likely, and they urge patience and attentiveness from drivers navigating construction zones.
PennDOT also notes that all construction schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change based on conditions.
This $83.6 million initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to improve the safety and efficiency of Pennsylvania’s roadways. Once completed, the upgrades to U.S. 422 and its adjoining roadways are expected to enhance traffic flow and support long-term infrastructure reliability for residents and commuters across Montgomery County.
