WILMINGTON, DE — Police in Wilmington have apprehended two male juveniles, aged 16 and 17, in connection with an alleged armed robbery that occurred early on January 18.
Officers from the Wilmington Police Department responded at approximately 12:12 a.m. to reports of an armed robbery in the 700 block of Townsend Place. Descriptions provided at the scene led police to identify and track down the suspect vehicle in the vicinity of Vandever Avenue and North Claymont Street. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled, prompting a pursuit that ended near West 8th and North Jefferson Streets. The two suspects reportedly abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but were quickly taken into custody.
Authorities recovered two firearms during the incident—a loaded 9mm handgun and a loaded .32 caliber handgun, the latter reported as stolen.
Both teenagers face multiple charges, including first-degree robbery, possession of deadly weapons during the commission of a felony, and receiving a stolen firearm. Court documents show additional charges of aggravated menacing, wearing disguises during the alleged robbery, conspiracy, and resisting arrest.
The 16-year-old was arraigned and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center with a cash-only bail set at $74,000. The 17-year-old was similarly arraigned and detained on $51,500 cash-only bail.
Officials emphasize that the charges are allegations, and the accused are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
