EXTON, PA — The AMETEK Foundation, the charitable arm of AMETEK, Inc. in Berwyn, has awarded Compass Mark a grant to support addiction prevention programs across Lancaster, Lebanon, and Chester Counties. The grant was facilitated by David Frank, CPA, VP of Taxation at AMETEK and a member of the Compass Mark Board of Directors. Funds will enable the community benefit organization (CBO) to deepen programs based on public health principles to prevent addiction and increase well-being.
Addiction prevention is based on public health principles of lowering risk factors and increasing protective factors, or strengths. Effective programs for youth teach social & emotional learning (SEL) skills, which include self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationships skills, and responsible decision-making. Over the 2022-2023 fiscal year, Compass Mark provided SEL programming to 7,848 students in 66 schools across 28 districts.
In 22-23 Compass Mark also trained 943 educators to sit on school Student Assistance Program (SAP) intervention teams; provided a virtual addictions conference for 300 professionals; distributed 26,000 educational publications, supported 87 caregivers of 145 children with incarcerated parents; and provided addiction-related information & referral to 586 clients.
This investment by the AMETEK Foundation will help Compass Mark implement its 2023-2026 strategic plan priorities, including:
- Strengthening prevention program evaluation to ensure evidence-based outcomes
- Developing a comprehensive plan for school-based prevention programs based on community needs
- Expanding training services to educate other professionals on emerging trends in youth development and substance use
