PHILADELPHIA, PA — Authorities in Philadelphia are actively searching for a suspect connected to a reported burglary at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church early Saturday morning.
The alleged incident occurred on January 11, 2025, at approximately 1:04 a.m. Investigators state that an individual forced entry into the church, located at 21 S 13th Street, by breaking a stained-glass window. Once inside, the suspect reportedly stole a gold crown adorned with gems from a statue of Mary.
Surveillance footage has been released to aid in identifying the suspect, described as a male wearing a facemask, a black jacket, gray pants, and red or pink sneakers.
Authorities caution the public not to approach the individual if seen but to contact 911 immediately. Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is encouraged to share tips confidentially via 215.686.TIPS or by contacting the Central Detective Division directly at 215-686-3047.
Police emphasize that all allegations are under investigation, and the suspect remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
