CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — IKEA U.S. has teamed up with the National Sleep Foundation (NSF) to release Sleep Matters: An Illuminating Report on Sleep, shedding light on the sleep habits of Americans and the barriers preventing quality rest. The study, which surveyed more than 2,000 adults, highlights the importance of sleep to physical and mental health, while revealing the significant challenges many face in achieving the recommended 7-9 hours of sleep per night.

Findings from the report emphasize that poor sleep is a widespread issue, often linked to stress, responsibilities, and a lack of time or organization. Nearly 67% of participants admitted they lack a consistent bedtime routine, with younger generations disproportionately affected by racing minds and stress. Alarmingly, 40% cited worries as a key factor keeping them awake.

Despite the struggles, Americans understand the value of quality sleep. According to the report, 86% of respondents are willing to make sacrifices—foregoing social outings, dinners, and even concerts—to sleep better. On average, people spend over 30 minutes each day thinking about sleep, amounting to nearly eight full days per year.

IKEA, leveraging decades of expertise in bedroom and sleep solutions, is committed to addressing these challenges. “At IKEA, we believe sleep should be a pleasure, not a source of pressure,” said Tania Moreira, Bedroom Business Manager, IKEA U.S. She emphasized the company’s dedication to providing solutions that enable customers to create optimal sleep environments tailored to their needs.

Key solutions from the report pinpointed cool temperatures, comfortable mattresses, and darkened bedrooms as critical factors for better rest. These findings align with IKEA’s mission to offer practical and accessible products that promote healthier sleep environments for all.

The NSF, celebrating its 35th year as an advocate for sleep health, underscored the importance of the partnership. “Findings from this research amplify reasons why people are concerned about their sleep,” said John Lopos, CEO of the National Sleep Foundation. He highlighted the opportunity for organizations like IKEA to empower individuals to overcome sleep challenges.

With this collaboration, IKEA aims to bridge the gap between understanding sleep issues and implementing practical solutions. By combining the insights from the Sleep Matters report with its product expertise, IKEA is poised to help millions of Americans improve their health and well-being through better sleep.
