WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has confirmed that nighttime construction activities will carry on next week on Interstate 476 as part of a $63.7 million project aimed at improving nearly 17 miles of the roadway, ramps, and bridges.

From Monday, January 13, through Friday, January 17, lane closures will be in effect nightly between 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. on sections of I-476 in both directions. The work zone spans between the I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) interchange in Montgomery County and the I-95 interchange in Delaware County. Construction operations during this period include inlet replacement, tree trimming, and guiderail installation. Motorists should anticipate significant delays and are advised to allow extra travel time.

The extensive project encompasses a range of restoration efforts, including milling and overlaying travel lanes and shoulders, repairing 49 structures, addressing rock slope stabilization issues, and improving 21 stormwater management basins. Additional work includes sound wall repair, replacement of drainage inlets, and the installation of rumble strips, delineators, guiderail, and updated signage throughout the stretch of highway.

H&K Group, Inc., based in Skippack, PA, serves as the general contractor for the federally funded initiative. The project is intended to enhance safety, ride quality, and the overall longevity of the interstate. Construction is projected to conclude by late 2025, with inclement weather potentially influencing the current schedule.

Drivers are urged to exercise caution and seek alternate routes when possible during the overnight hours, as delays are expected.
