PHILADELPHIA, PA — Children’s Scholarship Fund Philadelphia (CSFP) celebrated its annual Family Surprise Day and Lottery Day events, spreading holiday cheer and delivering life-changing news to families across the city. CSFP, Pennsylvania’s largest Pre-K–8th scholarship program, announced that families would receive need-based partial scholarships to support their access to quality education.
The Family Surprise Day event, held on December 8 at the Independence Blue Cross River Rink Winterfest, brought 11 families together for an afternoon of skating, games, and holiday festivities. The highlight of the day was the unexpected announcement that their children had been selected for scholarships for the upcoming school year.
“Our Family Surprise and Lottery Day marks the beginning of a new journey for every family,” said Keisha Jordan, President and CEO of CSFP. “By providing scholarships, we’re opening doors to quality, safe education and brighter futures for Philadelphia kids. A huge thank you to the Independence Blue Cross River Rink and to our amazing sponsors and volunteers who made both days so special!”
The excitement continued on Lottery Day, December 12, when CSFP staff, volunteers, and sponsors called families to share the news that their children had been chosen for scholarships. This year’s event was supported by sponsors including Janney Montgomery Scott, Radian, and other local organizations.
Janney Montgomery Scott served as the host sponsor for Lottery Day. “We’re proud to support CSFP and the work they do to positively impact children and families across our community,” said Karen Shakoske, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Communications at Janney. “Every family should be able to send their child to a school that best suits their needs without causing financial stress.”
Radian, the presenting sponsor for Lottery Day, emphasized the importance of education in building better futures. “We recognize that education is a crucial steppingstone towards families becoming homeowners,” said Rashi Iyer, SVP of Corporate Communications at Radian. “We are proud to support organizations like CSFP that lay the groundwork for individuals to grow and thrive.”
CSFP scholarships, which range from $1,250 to $3,350 annually, can be used at more than 150 private and parochial schools throughout the Greater Philadelphia region. New recipients are selected through a random lottery process, and scholars receive support through 8th grade. Families interested in applying have until March 1, 2025, for the 2025–2026 school year.
CSFP’s events continue to highlight the power of education and the impact of community-focused initiatives, ensuring more children in Philadelphia have access to better opportunities and brighter futures.
Families looking to apply for a scholarship must do so by March 1, 2025, to join the 2025-2026 lottery. Remaining recipients will be notified in March 2025. Apply at www.csfphiladelphia.org/apply.
