KENNETT SQUARE, PA — The MLKCommUNITY of Greater Kennett Area will host a special day of reflection and inspiration in honor of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at Lincoln University of Pennsylvania on Monday, January 20. The event, themed “We STILL Have a Dream!”, invites the community to celebrate Dr. King’s vision and commitment to creating a “Beloved Community.”
Schedule of Events
The day begins with the Annual Fellowship Brunch, featuring stirring choir performances, impactful readings of Dr. King’s work, and a keynote address from historian Dr. Evelyn Brooks Higginbotham. A Harvard University professor and current National President of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, Dr. Higginbotham will offer insight into the ongoing relevance of Dr. King’s message.
After the brunch, attendees are invited to the “Be A King” Volunteer Fair, a showcase of opportunities to serve the community through local nonprofits and organizations. The day will also include exhibitions, vendors, and tours of Lincoln University’s historic campus.
Additional Weekend Events
Leading up to Monday’s program, several community activities are scheduled to engage and inspire attendees:
- Saturday, January 18
Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union will host the “Change for Change Drive” from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, collecting donations to support local hunger relief efforts. - Sunday, January 19
A free film screening and discussion exploring the civil rights movement will take place at Kennett Library from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. That evening, the MLK Eve Worship Service will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Advent at 7:00 PM, featuring the Kennett Community Choir under the direction of Leon Spencer and Joan Holliday.
