WEST CHESTER, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that construction will continue next week as part of an extensive project aimed at enhancing safety along the Business U.S. 322 (High Street) corridor in West Chester Borough and West Goshen Township, Chester County. The project, designed to address traffic safety and efficiency in this heavily traveled area, will include multiple upgrades and improvements.
To facilitate construction, motorists should anticipate travel restrictions starting next week. From Monday, December 16, through Friday, December 20, periodic weekday lane closures with flagging will occur on Business U.S. 322 between Barnard Street and Rosedale Avenue, with restrictions in place from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM each day. Traffic backups and delays are expected, and drivers are encouraged to plan for extra travel time when passing through the construction zone. All work schedules are subject to weather conditions.
The project involves numerous upgrades designed to improve both vehicle and pedestrian safety. PennDOT’s contractor will install new traffic signal systems at University Avenue and Sharpless Street, integrate retroreflective backplates on existing signals for better visibility, and upgrade to modern LED luminaires for energy efficiency and enhanced lighting. Additional improvements include the installation of pedestrian countdown timers at intersections, curb extensions to reduce crossing distances, and high-visibility crosswalks for pedestrian safety. The project will also address drainage issues, perform full-depth pavement restoration, and ultimately resurface the roadway to deliver a smoother ride for motorists.
Marino Corporation of Skippack, Pennsylvania, is leading this $2.6 million project, funded entirely by federal resources. Construction activities are projected to continue through the winter of 2026, with the long-term goal of significantly improving traffic flow and overall safety in the area.
