GREENVILLE, DE — Delaware State Police have arrested 58-year-old Frank Yacona of Boothwyn, Pennsylvania, on allegations of vehicular assault and driving under the influence following a multi-vehicle crash that took place Wednesday afternoon.
According to authorities, the incident occurred on December 11, 2024, at approximately 1:27 p.m. at the intersection of Kennett Pike and Old Kennett Road. Investigators allege that Yacona was operating a green 2000 Ford F-150 traveling southbound on Kennett Pike when it collided with a stationary black 2016 Nissan Frontier stopped at a red light. The impact reportedly caused the pickup truck to continue forward, striking a white 2017 Nissan Rogue on Old Kennett Road. As a result of this second impact, the Nissan Rogue overturned.
The crash left a 74-year-old driver of the Rogue with serious injuries. The individual was transported to a local hospital for medical care. Additionally, the 70-year-old passenger in the Rogue and the 38-year-old driver of the Frontier both sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were also taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Upon arriving at the scene and interacting with Yacona, law enforcement officers reported observing signs of impairment. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were conducted, after which Yacona was taken into custody without incident. He was subsequently transported to Troop 1, where he was charged with several offenses.
The charges against Yacona include one felony count of Vehicular Assault in the First Degree, two counts of Vehicular Assault in the Second Degree, Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence, and additional traffic-related violations. Following his arraignment at Justice of the Peace Court 11, Yacona was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of a $4,002 secured bond.
While the investigation remains ongoing, law enforcement emphasizes that these charges are allegations, and Yacona is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. Authorities have also noted that details regarding the crash and its circumstances may be updated as more information becomes available.
