WILMINGTON, DE — InterDigital, Inc. (Nasdaq: IDCC) announced that Dong Tian, Senior Director for 3D Video Coding, has been named an IEEE Fellow, the highest grade of membership in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). This honor recognizes his significant contributions to 3D video compression, processing, and analysis, marking a key milestone in his distinguished career.

The IEEE bestows fellowships annually to less than 0.1% of its voting members, honoring individuals for exceptional achievements that advance technology and benefit society. Dong was nominated by the IEEE Signal Processing Society for his groundbreaking work in creating coding frameworks that have greatly influenced 3D video compression standards. His research also extends to 3D point cloud processing, enabling efficient representations and scene analysis directly from 3D data.

“Dong’s recognition as an IEEE Fellow is a testament to his leadership and impact in advancing video compression, signal processing, and AI capabilities to foster next-generation video communications,” said Rajesh Pankaj, Chief Technology Officer at InterDigital. “This honor highlights Dong as a valuable industry leader and reflects the important and influential research taking place across InterDigital.”

Beyond this achievement, Dong Tian holds leadership roles within the IEEE. He chairs the IEEE Multimedia Systems and Applications technical committee, serves as an advisory member of the IEEE Multimedia Signal Processing Technical Committee, and contributes to various MPEG-AI standard projects. His work at InterDigital’s Video Lab continues to drive innovation in 3D video standards and technology.
