WILMINGTON, DE — Ashland Inc. has teamed up with the Arbor Day Foundation to plant 15,200 native trees in celebration of the company’s 100-year anniversary. The initiative, carried out across regions in Brazil, Mexico, and the southeastern United States, aims to restore forest ecosystems, combat climate change, and support biodiversity.

The reforestation efforts will target areas in critical need. Projects include replanting in the Amazon Rainforest, creating wildlife corridors in Mexico, revitalizing land in Kentucky and West Virginia affected by coal mining, and restoring forests damaged by hurricanes in Gulf Coast states like Alabama and Florida.

“This partnership embodies Ashland’s dedication to making a positive impact on the environment and the communities we serve,” said Guillermo Novo, chairman and CEO of Ashland. “We’re celebrating our century-long legacy while laying the foundation for a sustainable future.”

Ashland has also committed to science-based targets addressing carbon emissions under the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), receiving formal approval in October 2023. These goals align with the company’s broader strategy to achieve climate-related benchmarks and foster sustainable innovation across its global operations.

Sarah Phelan, director of sustainability at Ashland, highlighted the significance of the tree-planting program. “By planting 15,200 trees across these vital ecosystems, Ashland is taking tangible steps to mitigate climate change, support biodiversity, and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come,” she said.

From sourcing natural raw materials to advancing R&D and reducing emissions, Ashland’s efforts demonstrate a commitment to addressing environmental challenges and promoting a healthier planet. This partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation adds another layer to the company’s sustainability legacy, ensuring a lasting impact for the next century of innovation.
