HARRISBURG, PA — Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry is leading a coalition of Attorneys General in advocating for new Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules aimed at enhancing customer service for internet, cable, voice, and broadcast satellite providers. In a letter to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the coalition aims to tackle consumer concerns over poor service interactions and enhance the user experience for millions across the nation.

The proposed rules would extend existing standards for cable providers to all telecommunications companies, mandating faster access to live agents, enhanced training for representatives, and automatic credits for outages or missed service appointments. Additionally, the rules would require companies to provide consumers access to recorded conversations with service agents. These measures are designed to ensure greater accountability and streamline the resolution of service issues.

“Internet, cable, and broadcast satellite use is part of daily life for so many Pennsylvanians, so customer service should be up to par when consumers have issues with services they are paying for,” Attorney General Henry said. She emphasized the need for modernized regulations that reflect the realities of widespread reliance on internet and streaming services.

The Office of Attorney General plays a critical role in handling consumer complaints under Pennsylvania’s Consumer Protection Laws. It frequently mediates disputes and investigates service issues related to internet, cable, and voice providers. By supporting the FCC’s proposed regulatory expansion, Henry and the coalition aim to ensure fairer treatment and improved service quality for consumers.

The FCC’s decision on the proposed rules could significantly impact how telecom providers interact with their customers, ultimately making customer service more accessible and effective in addressing consumer needs.
