RENO, NV, and READING, PA — – S&S Activewear has expanded its partnership with Körber Supply Chain Software and Geek+ Robotics to boost efficiency and precision in its warehouse operations. The company has introduced over 200 autonomous robots to its Reno, Nevada, and Reading, Pennsylvania, distribution centers, marking a significant investment in cutting-edge automation technology.
The Reno facility, covering 800,000 square feet, and the 650,000-square-foot Reading warehouse now feature advanced robotic systems, including Körber’s PopPick technology, which enhances picking accuracy and speed. Both centers, housing 2,750 racks and 110,000 totes, are operating at full capacity after previously successful implementations in the company’s Illinois facility.
Brian Beale, CTO of S&S Activewear, highlighted the benefits seen with PopPick technology. “Since deploying the system in our Illinois distribution center, we’ve seen production rates increase from 40 picks per hour to 150 picks per hour. There has also been a dramatic improvement in picking accuracy and a 75% reduction in turnover, as many warehouse safety risks have been eliminated,” Beale said. “We expect similar success in Reno and Reading.”
The roll-out has earned S&S Activewear recognition, including the NextGen End User Award for Robotics and a spot on Inc.’s Best in Business 2024 list for Operational Excellence. The company plans to expand the use of this automation to additional facilities in 2025.
“Our expanded use of automation and robotics technologies demonstrates the strength of our commitment to our customers and our employees,” said Frank Myers, CEO of S&S Activewear. “We’re able to fulfill customer orders in a fraction of the time while creating a safer and more efficient workplace for our team.”
The initiative underscores S&S Activewear’s focus on leveraging innovation to support operational excellence, employee well-being, and customer satisfaction.
