Pedestrian Killed in Late-Night New Castle Crash, Police Call for Witnesses

NEW CASTLE, DE — The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred late Saturday night on North Dupont Highway, leaving a 44-year-old man deceased.

At approximately 11:16 p.m. on December 7, a Toyota Tacoma was traveling southbound in the right lane on North Dupont Highway, north of Christiana Road. According to preliminary findings, the pedestrian, dressed in dark clothing, entered the southbound lane, moving into the path of the Tacoma. The vehicle’s front end struck the individual.

The pedestrian, a New Castle resident, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Authorities are withholding his name pending family notification. The Tacoma’s driver, a 38-year-old from Smyrna, Delaware, was uninjured in the incident.

Following the crash, the roadway was closed for about two hours to allow investigators to process the scene. The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit is handling the investigation.
